German Research Council publishes statement on HPC

The German Research Council (Wissenschaftsrat) publishes a statement on high-performance computing in Germany and suggests its further strategic development. The council stresses the importance of the availability of high-performance computing infrastructure for the future of science and research in Germany. It also recommends to better integrate methods for using high-performance computers in existing study programs in natural sciences, engineering, computer science and mathematics and to create specialized interdisciplinary Master's programs teaching computational science & engineering and high-performance computing methods and applications.
Prof. Marek Behr, President of the German Research School for Simulation Sciences, welcomes this statement as the GRS is offering such an interdisciplinary Master's program ("Simulation Sciences"). "The statement of the German Research Council confirms our conviction that the Master's program established by the GRS and its partners RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich has a great potential for the future and contributes to an important field of research."
Simulation Sciences has been accredited in 2009, attracts highly qualified (international) students and now produces its first graduates.
