April 2011

The BMBF fundet project HISEEM with the partners Siemens, Aachener Verfahrenstechnik (AVT) and the GRS group Applied Supercomputing in Engineering started this month with a kick-off meeting held at GRS Aachen. Goal of the 3 years project is to set up a coupled HPC software framework for the simulation of electrodialysis with application to sea water desalination.

February 2011

New ASE member Laura Didinger
Laura Didinger joined the group Applied Supercomputing in Engineering beginning of this month. The topic of her research is related to fluid-structure interactions.

EU Project THROMBUS
The EU-fundet ICT project "THROMBUS / A quantitative model of thrombosis in intracranial aneurysms" (Grant Agreement Number 269966) started with nine partners. The core of the project is to develop and validate a biological model of spontaneous or stent-induced thrombosis in intracranial aneurysms. GRS scientists active in this project are Dr. Jörg Bernsdorf and Simon Zimny.

Presentation at the workshop Multiscale fluid dynamics with the Lattice Boltzmann method
Dr. Jörg Bernsdorf
gave an invited lecture entitled "Lattice Boltzmann Application Paradigms in Medical Physics" at the workshop "Multiscale fluid dynamics with the Lattice Boltzmann method" (Lorentz-Center, Leiden, NL, 14.-18. February 2011).
